First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remember, “Book Review”
A heart-clenching, eye-opening masterpiece to the disasters of war. This book written by Loung Ung is about the series of tragic events that occurred during the four years of the Khmer Rouge, and about the sacrifices her and her family had to make to protect each other. While I was reading, I felt as if I could not put it down because if I did I felt I was doing an injustice to everybody that had gone through such a horrible event. There were times where I had to stop and catch my breath because every action was so well described that I could witness the fear and tension in the air. This book is a perfect example of why when you let hate consume you, you won’t just bring down yourself but even an entire nation.
